JEFFERSON COUNTY —Two years is an infant age for nearly anything, but for Staunton State Park, it's an age that marks quickening maturity.
"There's a lot going on," said Zach Taylor, one of two rangers for the park. "We're only 2 years old, but we're really trying to provide as much of a resource as we can and that infrastructure is coming in."
Colorado Parks and Wildlife will construct new trails this winter, including one leading to the base of Elk Creek Falls, one of the park's biggest scenic draws. The park's current trail network takes hikers within only a quarter-mile of the falls.
The park also will lay the foundation to a 5,000-square-foot visitors and information center, with a community room and gift shop, next spring.
