Park County designates enterprise zone to stimulate economic development

Park County commissioners signed an agreement with the Upper Arkansas Area Council of Governments Nov. 12 to provide administration services for the Central Colorado Enterprise Zone.

The boundaries of the new zone include all of Park County and most areas of Lake, Chaffee, Custer and Fremont counties. Previously, the other four counties were in the Upper Arkansas Enterprise Zone.

Enterprise zones were created by the state legislature in the 1980s as a means to encourage economic development in distressed areas of the state.

The program is through the Colorado Economic Development Commission.
