Stolen mail recovered from construction site in Jefferson County

Numerous roadside mailboxes have been robbed of their contents this fall. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office placed a notice on its Facebook page Nov. 10 that a large cache of opened mail was discovered at a construction site Oct. 15, and a significant portion of that mail was from Park County.

Mindi Wallbank of Bailey was waiting for a KP electric fence post that was gifted to her by a friend. According to the post office tracking number, the package was to be delivered to her mailbox Nov. 2.

When the package hadn’t arrived, Wallbank called the Bailey post office and was informed that there had been a spate of mailbox robberies, both in the Burland and Roland Valley areas.

Even though the package was insured, Wallbank could not make a claim for the stolen package. The post office said it was delivered to her mailbox and that ended its responsibility.
