Fort Carson officials are pressing forward with plans for high altitude helicopter pilot training in Park, Teller and Fremont counties.
U.S. Army Col. Joel Hamilton told residents at a community meeting in Guffey that “the Army needs to train here. There are (terrain) areas here like nowhere else.”
About 50 residents attended the High Altitude Mountain Environment Training update meeting Nov. 17 at the Bull Moose Restaurant in Guffey.
The Army application for a right-of-way grant from the Bureau of Land Management Cañon City Field Office includes 35,000 acres of public land and establishes about 45 helicopter landing zones in south central Park, southwest Teller and northern Fremont counties for the training program.
