Spring comes late to the mountains of Park County. After the snow has receded and the first mud season passed, new calves dot the still brown landscape on both sides of U.S. Highway 285 and Highway 9. Some years, the aspen studded hills remain tightly budded, not releasing their vernal green until early June. Folks in snowshoes squeeze the last days before turning in winter gear for hiking boots.
Another harbinger of spring has been the 9Health Fair held in April. The 9Health Fair visits communities, large and small, throughout the state in an effort to make available services and tests at a reduced cost with medical professionals donating their time.
The event does not put itself together. Doctors, nurses and other health professionals volunteer their time and services. But a site needs to be secured, a date cleared and volunteers (medical and civilian) gathered and organized. All volunteers, including professional health providers, have mandatory training provided by 9Health.
The production team has always been the staff at Rocky Mountain Rural Health.
