FOR ALL OF JEFFERSON COUNTY
A Key to Understanding China
“After over a century of decline, occupation, civil war, state repression and socialist revolution,” how has China managed to “catapult itself into an era of stunning dynamism and economic growth?” The Jeffco League of Women Voters Nonfiction Book Club will study Orville Schell’s and John Delury’s influential “Wealth and Power: China’s Long March to the 21st Century” at its January and February book club meetings. The authors help us understand China through their unique approach: Studying the evolution of Chinese thought through 11writers and leaders from the 1790s to now. Meetings on this book will be held Jan. 20, 23 and Feb. 17, 20. Learn more about this important topic through the insights in this stunning book. Call Lynne at 303-985-5128 for more information.

LWV non-fiction book club to study “Founding Brothers”
“Founding Brothers” by Joseph J. Ellis looks at some of the enduring arguments our founders wrestled and which still confound our people today: Revolutionary War debts (today think multi-trillion dollar debt), federal vs. state powers (Burns, OR), ideological purity vs. collaborative compromise, slavery (now racial divides), oligarchy vs. virtue and talents.
On Wednesday, March 16, (1-3 p.m.) and Saturday, March 19, (9:30-11:30 a.m.) the Jefferson County League of Women Voters will meet to discuss this timely look at the history of the issues that still divide us. The public is welcome. Call Lynne at 303-985-5128 for locations and more information.
