The Jarrod Moquist murder trial started at 2 p.m., Jan. 26 in the Eleventh Judicial District Court in Fairplay, after an almost two-day jury selection process. Moquist is accused of shooting his sister’s boyfriend, Evan Graham,
sometime in June 2013, in rural Park County.
Moquist has been charged with murder in the first degree, assault in the first degree, two counts of crime of violence, and tampering with physical evidence.
Moquist has admitted to the murder but his defense attorney will try to prove that Moquist was justified in his actions under the Homeowners Protection Act of Colorado (the Make My Day law).
The jury is made up of 14 people, 12 regular jurors and two alternates. There are nine men and five women on the jury. Judge Stephen A. Groome started the trial by giving his instructions to the jurors.
