Once again, the familiar green landmark on the west end of town – The Fairplay Valiton Hotel, known to all the locals and many return visitors to the area, is changing hands. Constance Tiel Schoppe will take charge after Lorna Arnold filed for deed in lieu of foreclosure, which relieves her of her mortgage obligations and returns the property to Tiel Schoppe.
In the Dec. 19, 2012, issue of the Flume, Constance Tiel Shoppe was featured in “Asking A Lot.” Some highlights from that interview: she was proud of her ability to block negativity from her daily life; when life knocks you down, get up and move forward; the hotel is the heartbeat of the town and she was just the caretaker.
That personal philosophy is being tested as she and husband Bob retake the reins at the FairPlay Valiton Hotel after a disappointing year and four months, with Arnold as the mortgagee and Tiel Schoppe carrying the loan.
