Want to know how your taxes are computed?
If you have ever been confused by those formulas and figures on your property tax bill, reserve Thursday morning, Feb. 18, to learn about it firsthand from Jefferson County Assessor Ron Sandstrom. The League of Women Voters of Jefferson County is sponsoring a public general meeting from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the Small Hearing Room on the first floor of the Administration and Courts Facility, 100 Jefferson County Parkway in Golden. Reservations are not required.
At that time, Sandstrom will update the audience on what is currently happening in his office and has been asked by the League to report on urban renewal, tax incremental financing (TIF) and special districts. This is an opportunity to meet the county assessor and ask questions to learn more about assessing property values, how your taxes are computed and about the checks and balances on the assessor’s office.
Elected Jefferson County Assessor Nov. 14, 2014, Sandstrom took office on Jan. 13, 2015. Prior to his election, he operated F&S Tax Consultant, a small business that handled disputes with the Jefferson County Assessor’s Office. He also worked in accounting for several other companies, including Coors Brewing in Golden. A native of Chicago, Sandstrom lives in Arvada.
The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan political organization that neither supports nor opposes candidates from any party.
