Anyone living in the Colorado Rockies knows Mother Nature always has weather surprises in store for the state during the spring, and this past weekend was no exception.
The National Weather Service posted snow totals for April 18, and within Park County Bailey wins for the most snow at 27 inches. Other totals included Fairplay, 12 inches, and Conifer, 45.5 inches.
A low-pressure system moved over the state Friday and parked itself over New Mexico. Known as an “Albuquerque low,” moisture swirled up from the Gulf of Mexico and landed, full force, over the foothills and west and south into Park County.
The storm also pulled cold air from as far away as Alaska, creating a perfect storm of heavy moisture and frigid temperatures.
