A rollover accident last week took the life of Platte Canyon High School student Gabe Smith, 17, and sent three other students to St. Anthony’s Hospital with various injuries.
The April 26 incident occurred on County Road 58 about a mile from U.S. Highway 285.
According to a press release from Sgt. Scott Hophan of the Colorado State Patrol, a 1997 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, driven by 18-year-old Alex Bundy of Shawnee, was eastbound on CR 58. Bundy lost control of the vehicle while attempting to negotiate a right-hand curve.
The vehicle rolled and came to rest on its wheels. Bundy and Smith, one of the passengers, were not wearing seat belts. Smith was pronounced dead at the scene.
