Retaining independence is an ongoing effort

The United States of America won its independence in July of 1776 and during the last 239 years, brave men and woman have continued to fight for our country in order to hold on to that independence.

Freedom was won that year, yet freedom is never free. As Ronald Reagan said Oct. 7, 1964, “Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn’t pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected and handed on for them to do the same.”

According to the 2010-14 United States Census Bureau statistics, there are 1,962 veterans living in Park County. In one way or another, every one of these veterans, at whatever time they served, were instrumental in that continued battle to retain our independence.
