Hosted by PLAN Jeffco, “In Plein Sight” is First Ever Live Painting Event to be Held in
Jefferson County Open Space Parks

DENVER (July 6, 2016) – PLAN Jeffco is pleased to announce that the upcoming live outdoor painting event “In Plein Sight” will feature a total of 27 artists descending upon Jeffco Open Spaces this October. Hosted by PLAN Jeffco, a nonprofit, volunteer-led organization of open space advocates based in Jefferson County, CO, In Plein Sight is the first plein air painting event to be held in Jeffco’s Open Space parks.

Featuring more than two dozen professional artists painting from dawn to dusk October 4 – 8, 2016 at one Jeffco Open Space location each day, In Plein Sight is a free, public exhibition for all ages to enjoy. Artists will be located in South Valley Park, Mount Falcon Park, Crown Hill Park, White Ranch Park and along the Clear Creek Trail in Golden. The public is invited to take a hike or stroll to observe the painters as they work.

This incredible week of painting will culminate in a gallery exhibit October 8 – 9, featuring all of the works created during the preceding week. These works will be on display and available for purchase at the Golden Community Center, 1470 10th Street, Golden, CO.

“We expect to have hundreds of pieces available at the final gallery exhibit, in a range of affordable prices,” says Margot Zallen, PLAN Jeffco President. “In addition to providing a unique cultural experience for the entire Metro Denver community, these events will allow attendees to bring the beauty of Jeffco’s Open Space parks into their homes and offices as a reminder of why we live in Colorado.”

After issuing a call for artists and conducting a national search, PLAN Jeffco chose 27 artists to participate in the first-of-its-kind In Plein Sight event this year, including:
• Cliff Austin (Aurora, CO)
• Brenda Behr (Goldsboro, NC)

“In Plein Sight is the largest event PLAN Jeffco has ever undertaken and we feel it is a unique opportunity to educate both locals and visitors about Jeffco Open Space Parks,” continues Zallen. “We are excited to have such a large number of artists joining us in October and are looking forward to seeing their interpretations of our beautiful Colorado vistas.”

Developed in the mid-19th century, plein air painting is executed outdoors and represents an artists’ direct response to the scene in front of him or her. This form of painting is characterized by the luminous effects of natural light, with an airy, natural tone versus the artificial light that can be associated with paintings produced in a studio. Literally meaning “open air,” plein air was developed among French impressionists including Monet, Pissarro, and Renoir.

Watch Artists at Work in Local Parks During "In Plein Sight"
Visit Jefferson County Open Space parks this week to watch plein air painters from around the country create new works, which will then be on sale.
By Daliah Singer
October 3 2016

If you're taking a hike (or just a leisurely walk) in a Jeffco park this week, it's likely you'll stumble upon an artist at work—or 27. Tuesday, October 4, marks the first day of In Plein Sight, a brand-new outdoor painting event. Plein air ("open air") painters from around the country—including 25 from Colorado—will set up in a different Jefferson County Open Space park every day, working from 7 a.m. until dusk. And you'll be able to buy those just-created works the following weekend.

If you want to catch them at work, the schedule is as follows: South Valley Park (October 4), Mount Falcon Park (October 5), Crown Hill Park (October 6), White Ranch Park (October 7), and along the Clear Creek Trail in Golden (west from the corner of 10th Street and Washington Ave, October 8).

Every painting will be displayed at the Golden Community Center on Saturday, October 8, and Sunday, October 9 (9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.), and they'll all be for sale.
