The Dam Ducky Derby, now in its seventh year, annually draws 3,500 visitors to downtown Evergreen with food and festivities throughout downtown, trolley horse rides on Main Street and the Duck Drop at Evergreen Dam.

How does it work? A fire truck drops numbered ducks from above the dam to the creek below. As the rubber ducks race down Bear Creek, spectators follow the flow of thousands of ducks as they approach the finish line at Highland Haven Creekside Inn. Children help collect the ducks in their baskets so they can compete again next year.

Anyone may participate by buying one or more uniquely numbered ducks. The winning ducks numbers are documented as they cross the finish line and cash prizes and sponsor gifts are awarded to the owners of the speediest ducks.

Evergreen Park & Recreation District (EPRD) was formed in 1969 to serve the park and recreation needs of the communities of Evergreen, Bergen Park, Indian Hills, Kittredge and Marshdale. EPRD serves approximately 23,000 people residing within its boundaries, and offers affordable recreational options to non-district residents. Learn more at www.evergreenrecreation.com/

From EDBA:

The 7th Annual Dam Ducky Derby in Downtown Evergreen is Saturday August 6 from 11:00am to 3:00p.m. Fun games and activities for kids of all ages will be provided by area businesses and organizations, including a dunk tank, face painting, a bouncy house, balloon artist, food and Live Music by Ave Deep in the Downtown parking lot on Main Street. Have lunch at one of our Downtown restaurants or support the American Legion Post selling hot dogs, brats and hamburgers in the parking lot.

The DUCK DROP at the Dam is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Watch the Evergreen Fire Department tower truck at the top of the dam! Ducks will float through downtown along Bear Creek to the finish line at Highland Haven Creekside Inn. Crowds will gather around the Dam and also at points along the creek to cheer for their floating ducks. $3,000 in cash prizes plus additional merchant prizes will be awarded. Winners will be announced at 3 pm in the Downtown parking lot.

Parking is available with shuttle bus service at Church of the Hills on Buffalo Park Road (across from the Evergreen Library) and Hiwan Museum (RTD lot on Meadow Drive). Shuttle buses operated by the Evergreen Senior Resource Center will be transporting visitors to and from the lots to Downtown.

To keep everyone safe from the cold, high and fast running waters, only the Swift Water Rescue Team from the Evergreen Fire Department will be allowed to enter the creek. "Evergreen Fire Rescue hopes everyone will enjoy the Dam Duck Derby. We are asking the public to please keep your family and pets away from the waters edge and do not attempt to enter the water. Bear Creek is still running swiftly, contains many hazards hidden under the water and is extremely cold. Please help us ensure that the Dam Duck Derby is a successful and safe event."

Before, during and after the Dam Ducky Derby festivities you can browse the downtown shops and galleries where many are offering special sales. Sit and enjoy coffee, sweets, beverages or ice creme at a downtown cafe or coffee shop. Listen to more music at our popular venues, Little Bear and Cactus Jack's and Muddy Buck...

Buy Ducks online at www.damduckyderby.com , at Seasonally Yours and Evergreen Crafters in Downtown Evergreen, or from participating area non-profit organizations.
