Author T. R. Reid to speak on health care amendment Aug. 23

What will it mean to vote “Yes” on Amendment 69 in November? Also known as ColoradoCare or Initiative 20, it would create a health care payment system to provide coverage for all residents of the state. T. R. Reid, author of “The Healing of America,” is an expert on global healthcare systems. He will speak and answer questions on Tuesday, Aug. 23, 7-9 p.m. at St. Anthony Hospital, (south entrance) 11600 W. 2nd Place, Lakewood. The event, hosted by the League of Women Voters of Jefferson County, is free and open to the public. For more information, visit www.lwvjeffco.org . An explanatory booklet and list of supporters for Yes on Amendment #69 is at www.coloradocare.org . The LWVCO has extensively studied this issue and supports the amendment.

This amendment is horrible!!! Taxes will skyrocket.
A person starts earning their health care whenever he/she enters grade school. How they perform in the educational system determines what kind of income and career they will have. If they ignore the opportunity that they are given, they will not be able to afford health insurance.

They earn the health care that they "deserve".

The tax payer has no obligation to provide free health care for them whenever they are failures.

I believe even top Democrats in the state are against this amendment. It would encourage unhealthy people from all over the nation to come to Colorado for "free" healthcare. Let some other state be the guinea pig, like California or Massachusetts. We couldn't afford the increased taxes and population.

Thomas Sowell: There are no solutions, just trade-offs.
