UPDATES names of heroes to be honored at Wulf Gym event Jan. 15
EVERGREEN, CO (Dec. 29, 2016) -

Premier group photo Evergreen Park & Recreation District (EPRD) presents its 4th annual Premier-Special Olympics Basketball Showcase on Sunday, Jan. 15, 2017.

Former NBA star Keith Van Horn's Colorado Premier Basketball Team will hold a clinic and play a unified game with EPRD's Special Olympics Wildcat Basketball Team.

The event, starting at 3 PM at Wulf Recreation Center, will give special needs kids an opportunity to learn new skills and enjoy a unified basketball game with more advanced athletes. Tickets are just $5 person/$10 family at the door.

Hero Ceremony
In a short ceremony just before the game, EPRD will honor local heroes who have supported the special needs community.

"The Hero presentation will honor outstanding folks for unselfish acts of kindness to people with disabilities," said Maren Schreiber, program coach and EPRD's Special Populations Coordinator. "It's inclusion at its best!"

Those being honored include Bill and Phillipa Flaherty for financial support over the years, Lori Graham and Danette Anderson for volunteering as Special Olympics golf coaches, and photographer Cheryl Newhall for taking pictures of Special Olympics and youth basketball participants.

This year's event will also feature a silent auction. Sponsors include Colorado Premier Basketball, Evergreen Clothing Company, Baskin Robbins, Messler Enterprises, Cheryl Newhall Photography and Colorado Special Olympics.

Wulf Recreation Center is located at S5300 S. Olive Road in Evergreen.
