The impact of Aging – A Billion Shades of Gray

Around the world, the pace of population aging is increasing dramatically. The confluence of three demographic trends have brought the issue of aging to the world’s attention: the surge of births between 1946 and 1964 (the Baby Boomers) following World War II; the increase in life expectancy; and the declining birthrate after 1964.

What does this mean for the world, for Colorado and for Jefferson County? Jefferson County was ranked first in the state for having the most residents 65 and older. The League of Women Voters of Jefferson County will discuss the statistics, impacts and strategies to deal with this “Silver Tsunami” at its six unit meetings throughout the county Jan. 10-12.

In the foothills/Golden area, the League’s Mountain Parks Unit will meet at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 10, at Highland Rescue Team Ambulance District, 317 S. Lookout Mountain Rd., Golden, 80401. Call Robin at 303-674-1780 for information. All are welcome. An evening meeting also is available; call Teresa at 303-972-4238 for information.

The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan political organization that neither supports nor opposes candidates from any party. The League’s mission is to promote informed and active participation in government and to influence public policy through education and advocacy after consideration by its members.
