Why is it so hard to find affordable housing in Jefferson County?

Affordable housing is in critical short supply in Jefferson County. Rent and housing prices are escalating and homelessness is on the rise. Housing is considered affordable if it constitutes 30 percent or less of a household’s income. The supply of affordable housing affects a community’s health, education and economy. What is being done to correct this shortage? The Jeffco League of Women Voters will examine this issue at its Mountain Parks Unit meeting, 9:15 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 14, Highland Rescue Team Ambulance District, 317 S. Lookout Mountain Rd., Golden, 80401. Call Robin at 303-674-1780 for information. The public is welcome. An evening meeting also is available Feb. 15; call Teresa at 303-972-4238 for information.
