A Buddy Bench is a simple idea. A park bench placed in the outside activity area of a school where students can go to who are looking for an activity mate, have something they want to talk about or simply as a place to take a time out, that’s a Buddy Bench.
Two of the benches were installed at Deer Creek Elementary School by the Rotary Club of Conifer. As a service organization, Rotary is always looking at communities to see what’s needed and how it can help improve lives.
The Rotary’s Community Service Chair, Charlotte Wytias, ran across an article by Colby Itkowitz in The Washington Post explaining the concept of a Buddy Bench.
“We all need buddies from time to time,” the article stated. “Especially children.”
