After a lengthy discussion June 8 whether to change the scope of what the county sales tax can be spent on, the commissioners decided by a two to one majority to keep the same language as the past voter approved ballot questions.
A resolution approving the sales tax ballot question will be voted on at a later date.
The ballot question that approved the one percent sales tax for ten years in 1997 stated the sales tax shall be used “solely for the preservation, protection, acquisition, improvement and maintenance of Park County’s remaining water resources and lands associated with water rights and water resources.”
The sales tax was renewed in 2006 and set to expire Dec. 31, 2018 unless renewed before Dec. 31, 2018.
