Paul Mattson, chief of the South Park Ambulance District, is seeking community input on an additional role for paramedics in the South Park district through a survey.
“The concept is that with additional training, paramedics can act as a liaison between primary care providers, hospitals, and patients,” Mattson said.
A special program where paramedics have an expanded role is referred to as a “community paramedic program.”
The Rural and Frontier Emergency Medical Services Agenda for the Future defines community paramedicine as “an organized system of services, based on local need, which are provided by EMTs and paramedics integrated into the local or regional health care system and overseen by emergency and primary care physicians.
