The 69th annual Burro Days set for Fairplay July 28 through July 30

The Fairplay Burro Days event celebrates its 69th anniversary this year. Burro racing has become an increasingly popular event in Colorado, culminating every year in the Triple Crown races in Fairplay, Leadville and Buena Vista.

The beginning of burro racing is not clear; some say the event was started as a competition between miners and others say it was a made-up event to promote tourism to the area. Regardless of the true reason the sport continues to flourish in the state of Colorado.

Burro Days encompasses several other events in the three days the festival runs.

It begins Friday, July 28, with a free concert from Ronnie Raygun and the Big Eighties from 6 until 9 p.m.
