League of Women Voters of Jefferson County Kicks Off on August 24th.

If you’ve wondered what the League of Women Voters Jefferson County is all about, here’s a chance to find out. Join us on Aug. 24 from 1 to 3 p.m. at Shepherd of the Hills Presbyterian Church, 11500 W 20th St., Lakewood. All current members and prospective members are encouraged to attend. LWV is not for women only.

Activities for the year will include local Voter Service Outreach and hot topics; such as, the Jefferson County School Board elections, Money in Politics, Climate Change, Demographic Impacts and Homeless and Hunger in Jefferson County. Plus, our newly designed website, www.jeffcolwv.org , will be presented.

There are six convenient meeting locations throughout Jefferson County with both daytime and evening meeting options.

LWV Jeffco will continue to offer the non-fiction book club for league members, as well as anyone interested in learning more about politics today. LWV Jeffco supports new citizen voter registration and offers ongoing voter education efforts.

­­LWV book club scores with Hamilton

The Jeffco League of Women Voters nonfiction book club will review Ron Chernow’s Alexander Hamilton at its September book club meetings.


Hamilton had an exotic, but brutal upbringing, as well as an ugly and brutal end. While he was a “very human” being, his contributions to our country’s financial well being, our politics and law make him a giant among the giants of our nation’s creation. Chernow’s epic biography wins all the usual superlatives . . . magnificent, splendid, brilliant.

Join the League for its discussion of this “high-minded philosophical” time in our history which was also a time of “venomous vituperation.” Is it an echo of our own days?
