The Battle at Boxwood stands every year as a fly fishing competition at Boxwood Gulch. It is hosted by Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing, Inc., to relieve war veterans from the horrors of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder as well as to help rehabilitate those emotionally and physically damaged.
PTSD affects veterans both physically and psychologically, causing those who suffer from it to relive psyche-damaging moments of their past through flashbacks and nightmares.
Five years ago, Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing began helping injured veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan. They originally stationed their base of operations at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center.
