The South Park High School Burro’s football team triumphed 42-6 over rival school Custer County Bobcats in South Park’s Homecoming non-conference challenge Sept. 23.
“The boys played like how they can play and everyone, from our starters to our young guys, had a good game. Everyone had fun and executed their individual responsibilities to direct things our way. We just couldn’t ask for a better game for all of that to happen,” head coach Jim Carpenter said.
Prior to stepping into Burro territory, the two opponents stood evenly matched, with both holding 1-2 season records. Previous encounters had found the Bobcats taking a 65-18 loss to Rocky Mountain Lutheran and a 46-14 loss to Sangre de Cristo, but the A-8 Southern competitors found their first win on the season when beating Las Animas 36-6.
“Custer is good. I think they were dealing with the opposite effects as us, where they got down and couldn’t recover to get back up. Also, the weather may have hampered their play a little more than it did for us,” Carpenter said.
