Memoir Writing Extension with The Hero's Journey

Course description: Memoir Extension is for students who want to go a bit deeper into their memoir, review the previous eight classes, see an over-all pattern of their journey and perhaps find a way to organize their writings into an exciting collection of stories and anecdotes for family and friends.

Your Creative Journey - Through Pastel; Level II with Marjie Eakin-Petty
This Level is for those who've taken Level I (three times is recommended if new to painting) and wish to advance their skills toward more dynamic and effective pastel paintings. Work on projects of your choice or complete paintings begun in previous workshops. More time available for painting, easel-side assistance, advanced lessons and individual guidance by Marjie, while you enjoy wine and cheese each afternoon.

Each day begins with a time of gathering and further exploration of your own creative journey, and brief exercises to stimulate your creative fire and inspire your life as an artist. Followed by instruction of soft pastel techniques, composition and color theory, and developing your unique style.

Painting Canada: The Group of Seven and Tom Thomson with Karen Lindsay
The Group of Seven, also known as the Algonquin School, was a group of Canadian landscape painters active from 1920 to 1933, originally consisting of Franklin Carmichael, Lawren Harris, A. Y. Jackson, Frank Johnston, Arthur Lismer, J. E. H. MacDonald and Frederick Varley. Believing that a distinct Canadian art could be developed through direct contact with nature, the Group of Seven initiated the first major Canadian national art movement. We will study the biographies and the paintings of each of the original artists.
OPTIONAL: The class will conclude with a long weekend trip (paid for separately) to Toronto May 3-6, 2018 to see the actual original paintings in three Toronto museums.

Course description: The first two weeks of this class will be dedicated learning several techniques of hand building (pinch, slump, mold, coil and slab) and wheel throwing (basic forms tumblers, bowls and cylinders). The second two weeks will be focused on surface treatment and how to decorate with carving, slip and glazes.

Course description: The first two weeks of this class will be dedicated to learning several techniques of hand building (pinch, slump, mold, coil and slab) and wheel throwing to create a dinnerware set, including plates, bowls, tumblers, goblets and serving platters. The second two weeks will be focused on surface treatment and how to decorate with carving, slip and glazes. The last day of class we will be unloading the kiln and having a dinner on our new pieces.

Painting Landscapes in Watercolor

Instructor: Cathy Jones
Course description: Find your artistic muse through watercolor. Discover how it is uncontrollable, fluid and alive. But don't be intimidated by this lovely medium. Cathy is known for her use of color, color theory and her unique approach to watercolor painting which is somewhat impressionistic with a southwestern flair. She will lead you through the process of putting together a watercolor painting from start to finish. This one day workshop will focus on painting landscapes from the French region of Provence. Some or all of the following watercolor techniques may be used: masking fluid, splatter, wet on wet, wet on dry, dry brush, glazing, light to dark, and beyond. All abilities and levels welcomed. Supply list available. 300 pound watercolor paper will be available for purchase.
