The Venue Theatre opens their next high school production titled “Urinetown - The Musical,” Friday, Jan. 19, at 7 p.m.
The musical is a farcical look at some of the biggest issues we face as a country. It takes a hard look at the legal system, the whole idea of capitalism, and social responsibility. The musical debuted at the New York International Fringe Festival.
After its fringe festival debut, the musical ran off-Broadway from May 2001 until June 2001. The show then opened on Broadway Sept. 20, 2001, until Jan. 18, 2004, running for 965 shows plus 25 previews. The show was nominated for nine Tony Awards, bringing home three statues.
