Fairplay’s board of trustees March 19 agenda included a new business item titled “Discussion regarding open carry restriction on town-owned property/right-of-ways immediately adjacent to the school property in Fairplay.”
This discussion topic was brought to the board of trustees by Acting Police Chief Bo Schlunsen, in a memorandum dated March 15.
The memorandum stated, “We have recently had a situation come up at the school that is disconcerting to some parents, school staff and school board members.”
The memorandum referenced a document titled “P4 - Parents.Perimeter.Protection.Plan” being distributed by a local parent. This document states, “The eligible members of P4 will be establishing an armed perimeter encompassing school owned properties where permittable and deemed necessary.”
