Course description: Level I - Beginning with The Basics - Building Foundational Skills ONLY TWO SLOTS LEFT!
Best for those new to pastel or new to painting or any level wishing to spark up their color and technique skills. These two-day, indoor workshops focus on discovering your own path to inspiration while learning how to capture the essence of excitement in the landscape. Learn the principles of creating vibrant pastel paintings, infusing your artwork with dynamic light and color. Enjoy the process of connecting with your own creative expression while learning the fundamentals of pastel painting in a fun and relaxed environment. Bring reference photos from which to work or new students may paint along with Marjie's demonstration as you begin to immerse yourself in your own painting. Previous knowledge of painting is helpful but not required in Level I. Recommended: repeat Level 1 three or more times (if new to painting) until a working proficiency of concepts is reached before advancing to Level II.
Each day begins with a time of gathering and sharing of your own creative journey, and brief exercises to stimulate your creative fire and inspire your life as an artist. Followed by instruction of soft pastel techniques, composition and color theory. Marjie will demonstrate and provide easel-side assistance while you paint each afternoon.

Course description: Learn to oil paint in 'plein air' (on location). This course presents materials, tools and specific techniques for beginners, while encouraging experienced artists to bring their work to the next level. Week 1 we will meet at CAE to go over equipment and the visual elements and approaches for developing outdoor paintings. For each of the following four weeks we will meet at a different location near Evergreen and/or Conifer to paint on location. We will learn how to choose plein air subjects and how to cope with changing weather and light, while assessing shape, value, color envelope and aerial perspective. Each week we will develop a finished landscape in a limited time frame, concluding with a critique of that day's work.

Course description: This workshop is designed to explore different techniques of building, carving, decorating with slips(underglazes). Sunny will demonstrate handbuilding/wheel throwing techniques to build a birdhouse. The first 2 hours of class will be dedicated to making the structures and the 2nd half will be to finish and decorate the pieces with slip/underglazes. They will then dry and be bisque fired and then a clear glaze will be put on the pieces. On July 18th, class runs from 11am-noon and will be our critique and discussion when you will be able to pick up your finished birdhouse.

Learn wildlife photography from Jackie Crivello! Bring your camera to photograph three birds of prey. We will have a mature Bald Eagle that we will photograph in free flight, along with several other raptors including an owl. Crivello is an internationally published outdoor/nature photographer whose photography combines extreme action with striking detail. We will drive to the Yellow Barn to photograph these incredible birds. The early start time ensures better lighting.

John James Audubon was determined to paint all of America's birds in their natural settings and as realistically as possible. He perfected mounting techniques and developed new methods of painting the delicate plumages. Focusing on birds at Evergreen Lake, Lynne Milliken aids bird lovers to quickly and accurately record sightings in a sketch book. Using minimal tools, participants learn to recognize and draw forms, shapes, and relevant markings. You'll need a comfortably sized sketch book (spiral bound) no smaller than 8"x6" and no larger than 11"x14", #2 or 2B pencils, clean eraser, small set of colored pencils, a ground mat or low stool, and binoculars. Scopes will be available.

Sam Burns is largely influenced by Folk/Americana Artists of the 60's. He recently uprooted from Austin, TX to Fort Collins, CO in hopes to expand his songwriting craft as well as pursue a Masters Degree in Classical Guitar. His music is said to be reminiscent of such artists as: John Lennon, Carole King, Paul Simon, and the more modern Milk Carton Kids. Sam has had years of performance experience around the United States including being the support act for the Los Lonely Boys in 2015 which took him to venues such as the City Winery in New York City. He just released his debut LP Songs & Sad Melodies April 2018 and has plans to record his next album in the Summer of 2018.
