Evergreen Park and Recreation District (EPRD) seeks your thoughts and recommendations on two funding proposals that may appear on the November 2018 ballot: a bond measure to fund improvements to recreation facilities, parks and trails, and a mill levy to support district operations and maintenance needs.
EPRD's parks and recreation facilities have never been busier. In fact, their popularity is driving the need for improvements. Buchanan Park Recreation Center (BPRC) and Wulf Recreation Center (WRC) collectively have more than 200,000 pass and drop-in visits each year, including almost 94,000 aquatic visits. These facilities host more than 3,700 fitness classes and offer swim lessons and other aquatic programs to more than 7,000 participants annually.
A 38-member Citizen Task Force was recruited to help evaluate the District's facility and operating needs; This committee was directly involved in developing the current bond and mill levy proposals.
Evergreen Park & Recreation District is considering placing a bond measure and mill levy measure on the November 2018 ballot to address the District’s highest priority capital facility and operating needs. The proposed improvements being considered include:
ADA Enhancements to Our Local Parks
Rubberized surfaces would be added to Arrowhead Park, Kittredge Park and Wulf Park. A multiuse court would also be added to Arrowhead Park to allow for wheelchair basketball and other programming.
Trail Improvements
A permanent, long-term solution to the Evergreen Lake North Trail would be addressed as well as other trail upgrades.
Purchase of Land for Park Use
The District would purchase a 2.2-acre site at Buchanan Park to complete original vision for this area.
Addressing Aquatic Needs
The 45-year-old pool at WRC would be completely renovated. In addition, a separate, smaller, warm water pool for swim lessons and water fitness would be added to WRC. Four lap lanes would also be added at BPRC.
Improvements to Buchanan Park Recreation Center
BPRC improvements would include the addition of a three-court gymnasium with elevated walk-jog track, expanded fitness class space, additional parking and base facility upgrades.
Improvements to Wulf Recreation Center
WRC improvements would include the addition of a new elevator to improve access to the third floor and the updating of locker rooms to address code requirements. Group showers would be converted to individual bay showers.
Outdoor Multiuse Courts
Four outdoor multiuse/pickleball courts would be constructed at Wulf Park.
