Park County Water Sampling Meeting Scheduled
The Coalition for the Upper South Platte (CUSP) will hold a public meeting to discuss the results from 2018 water sampling on the Upper South Platte. The public is invited to join CUSP on February 12, 2019 at 5:00 PM in the Park County Offices, 856 Castello Ave, Fairplay.
CUSP received a grant from the State of Colorado Nonpoint Source Program to develop a plan to address water quality issues in the upper reaches of the Middle Fork of the South Platte related to mine activities. This area has both historic and modern mining. The Park County Land and Water Trust Fund (LWTF) and Park County Commissioners granted matching funds and expanded the study area to include Sacramento Creek.
The 2018 testing built on the earlier work that the LWTF and Commissioners have supported over the last several years. Previous water testing results will be combined with 2018 results to develop recommendations for projects to improve water quality in the upper basin. The goal is to help protect the water supply for the Town of Alma and the fishery in the upper Middle Fork reaches.
About CUSP: The Coalition for the Upper South Platte protects the water quality and ecological health of the Upper South Platte Watershed and surrounding areas, through the cooperative efforts of watershed stakeholders, with emphasis placed on community values and economic sustainability. Since 1998, CUSP has been working with partners and communities to sustainably manage the watershed and surrounding communities for the benefit of all stakeholders, now and in the future.
