Posted on: August 17, 2021 NOTICE: Seeking Public Comment on Proposed Revisions to OWTS Resolution & Policy
As an effort to minimize the impact of nitrate pollution from new and existing development to the groundwater in the Parmalee Gulch watershed, there has been a long-standing Jefferson County Board of Health resolution and policy prohibiting installation of new onsite wastewater treatment systems (septic systems) on some properties within the Indian Hills community, and establishing standards for the installation of onsite wastewater treatment systems outside of the Prohibition Area.
Jefferson County Public Health (JCPH) has been exploring utilization of a more robust, science-based approach to minimize new contributions and to reduce existing contributions of nitrate pollution to the groundwater on both these restricted properties and properties outside of the Prohibition Area. JCPH is requesting your comments on the proposed Board of Health resolution and implementation policy.
We have created an opportunity for community members to review and comment on the proposed resolution and policy through September 30, 2021. Please visit our website at
www.jeffco.us/4317
to review the resolution and policy, submit your comments and sign up for OWTS updates.
We are looking forward to your input to help ensure that these policies make a positive impact on protecting public health and water quality in your community.
