Evacuations: How to Plan, How To Prepare, Things To Know and Do

The residents of Superior and Lousiville had 4 lane highways and multiple streets from which to evacuate their homes. 30,000 plus people got out with only one loss of life, and that was in no small part due to dozens of instances where first responders had to go in and help evacuate those who were trapped by flames, lacked transportation, or the physical capability to get themselves out (no car, people with disabilities, etc). We face far greater challenges in our infrastructure for evacuation. We have about the same number of people, but narrow, windy mountain roads that cannot accommodate fast-moving incidents. It is IMPERATIVE that you plan ahead and evacuate AS SOON AS POSSIBLE in the event of a fire, especially on Red Flag Warning days.
