Multi Agency EMS Mock Rescue Mission in Idaho Springs

Clear Creek County, CO – July 27, 2024

Multiple EMS agencies will jointly perform a mock rescue mission in Idaho Springs on Sunday, July 28th from 9:30-11 AM.

Clear Creek County may be one of the smaller counties within Colorado, but it is highly utilized for its
mountainous terrain and recreational opportunities by both locals and tourists. With this use comes
unforeseen incidents, and the county is supported by various EMS agencies to respond when a search or rescue is needed.

During a rescue, these agencies must work collaboratively and promptly, while supplying their specified
skillsets in order to help the public in an emergency. The agencies participating realize the need to practice cohesiveness in their response, to best support those affected by an emergency rescue in this area.

Agencies participating include:
• Alpine Rescue Team
• Central City Fire
• Flight For Life
• Clear Creek Fire Authority
• Clear Creek Ambulance
• Clear Creek Sheriff

What to expect from this mock mission exercise:
Leaders of each organization will coordinate resources and deploy specialized teams appropriately.
For example, Flight for Life may be requested for an aerial view and/or standby for transportation of
injured subject. Alpine Rescue Team members will be responding on foot to assist in the medical care
of the individual(s) as well as evacuation to the Clear Creek Ambulance services. Clear Creek Fire
Authority and Central City Fire will be utilizing their specialties while also on standby for additional
medical resources and assisting in the evacuation. Clear Creek Sheriff’s Office will be responsible for
traffic control and overseeing operations.

In the state of Colorado, sheriffs have a statutory mandate to provide backcountry search and rescue
(SAR) services. Often, they choose to do so with the use of volunteer teams. In Clear Creek County,
Alpine Rescue Team is that designated resource, and stands as its own 501(c) 3 organization.

Additionally, Alpine Rescue Team has a similar relationship with both Jefferson and Gilpin counties.
