Stay in the Know with I-70 Mountain Express Lanes Text Alerts
With summer traffic increasing, especially along the I-70 mountain corridor, CDOT is providing an extra tool to help drivers navigate their travel to and from the mountains. A new text alert system is available to keep motorists informed about unexpected closures, delays and flex day openings.
To sign up for notifications, text ‘xpresslanes’ to 21000.
Safety and Toll Enforcement Program (STEP)
STEP is now active on all tolled Express Lanes corridors across Colorado and uses advanced roadside technology to help keep Colorado roadways safe.
When a new corridor starts enforcement, there is a one-month grace period where drivers receive warnings for violations. After that, violators receive a $75 civil penalty (fine) mailed to the registered owner’s address.
Violations include unsafe behaviors such as weaving in and out of Express Lanes over solid lines, driving in the Mountain Express Lanes with an oversized vehicle or driving in Express Lanes when they are closed.
