“Paul Sills' Story Theatre” Transformation, mime, and dance are the basis of the "Story Theatre" method. Story Theatre composes plays from stories, myths, folk tales, and legends, each told with a lean production style. All the trappings are created by the actors with their bodies and voices. The no-frills storytelling creates some evocative effects.
The cast includes Beau Augustin, Matt Bachus, Rebecca Donnella, Sean Maslow, Len Matheo , Bruce Montgomery, Andrea Rabold and Jodi Thomas.
Paul Sills is best remembered as Chicago's father of improvisation, the innovative co-founder/director of the celebrated Compass Players and Chicago's Second City comedy troupes. At the Game Theater, he also discovered a new form, which he called Story Theater, which debuted during the summer of 1968. Story Theatrewent on to play at Yale University, in Los Angeles and on Broadway, remaining the form Sills explored for the rest of his life.
