It ended with no plan. So the slaves were without a rudder and they moved to Washington, D.C. expecting the government to come up with a plan or help them in some way or other. It was hard times all around.
That's how it ended.

The 13th Amendment wasn't even finally ratified by Mississippi until 1995. I guess that's when slavery ended there.
