OK the govt shuts down, and they are threating that the IRS refund checks will not go out. Are they going to stop collecting to? I would bet they would gladly cash your check.

LOL! You are so right about them not collecting too. Ha! I heard that service men and women will not get paid either. What a mess.

Endorsing and depositing the check into the IRS bank account (do they have one or do they have their own bank?) doesn't take as many people as it does to cut a physical check and/or send the money from their account to yours.

And all of those civilians that work for the government...from the lowliest GS-1 (especially the lower ones) will not get paid during the shut down. Furthermore, those that work for the Department of Defense...well, the uniform-wearing Soldiers, Sailors, Marines, Coast-Guardsmen, and Airmen will have to fill in and do their jobs.

This so is not pretty!!

LA: The military men and women will likely still get paid for a little bit...most of them get their pay via direct deposit and that is difficult to shut off that quickly. But, they will still have to work and will probably pick up more hours.

My brother works for National Parks Dept and they are looking at a 1-2 week hiatus from both work and pay. He is a GS12 I think. I am glad to hear that the Military people will be paid, the news this morning (Channel 7) said they would not be. Thanks for posting that.

And if this is like the 1995 shutdown, the goverment workers will get their backpay for not working. So it is just another paid vacation, but you don't get paid until it is over.

The military will not get their pay checks, direct deposit or not if they do the so called shut down, Same thing happened in 95. They will stay at thier jobs and then would get the back pay. I remember that happening in 95. Navy Relief doled out alot of money for those that needed it.
