Would you miss the Federal Government if were shut down?

Yeah...if the shut-down affects my AF pension and disability checks and if it affects the VA...I'd miss it. Not only will I miss it, but I'll not be able to pay some of my bills, so I may miss heat, water, and electricity.

Also, if the shut-down affects any of the base facilities I go to (mostly Commissary, Exchange, and gas station), it will really impact me. I'll be paying a lot more for groceries.

Life for me would get quite a bit better without the FEDS. I would not miss a thing.

The FEDS don't provide me with water.

The FEDS don't pave my roads.

The FEDS don't heat my house or feed me.

My life is Federal Government Subsidy FREE - and I want to keep it that way.

They collect about 1/3 of what I earn and I don't get even 1/10 of that 1/3 in benefit.

Give me back my 1/3 - and people like me will figure out how to pay for what little the FEDS do for us- at a fraction of the price. And we will do it the most efficient way known to man- the private free market way.

Don't anyone ever ask me why I left the board again..Questions like this and people taking them seriously in their responses is the answer.

The membership is too stupid. EVEN FOR ME! and I can barely spell words

Don't let the door hit ya in the ass on the way out!

It's amazing to see just how many of us are firmly sucking on the government tit.

With so many of us dependant on government- it's not a good sign that we will ever have the political willpower to become independant citizens again. For almost 150 years, less than 5% of us (Americans) were beholden to the government for anything.

Sad state of affairs.

It would be very nice to see more decentralization of federal duties and taxes. Shut down the Department of Education, let states decide how to spend thier money. Federal taxes on alcohol and fuel should be collected by the state and be allowed to be kept by the state. Then state goverment wouldn't be voting themselves bridges to nowhere because they know better projects to spend thier money on. The Feds wouldn't be using the carrot and stick of federal revenues to enforce their drinking ages, their speed limits, and the age of new drivers.

I'm not wholly dependent on the government...but they told me what I would get if I volunteered to stay for 20 or more years...I didn't ask for what I'm getting for my pension or my disability...they told me up front when I was 18 that I would get it and now they are turning their backs on me???

As I've said before in other posts, please don't tell me I'm sucking from the government as that implies that that is my only means of getting what money I get to live. I provided a vital service for 20 years and believe the damn politicians should agree on something so those that have gone before me, those that are in my shoes, and those that are active duty can perform the duties they volunteered to perform and get just compensation from it. I now work at a private company for the majority of my living and what I get for my pension and disability I earned. Unfortunately, until 5 1/2 years ago, my military pay was my only means of supporting my dependents and myself and I haven't yet gotten to the point where I don't have to rely on my pension and disability to survive. I'm working towards it and will get there...

I'm not blaming the "government"...I'm blaming the damn, selfish politicians.

John Boehner: Democrats 'win' in government shutdown

Speaker John Boehner is warning his Republican colleagues that Democrats would “win” a government shutdown and the GOP would suffer a political catastrophe if the federal government runs out of money at the end of this week.

“The Democrats think they benefit from a government shutdown. I agree,” Boehner said during a closed-door, 90-minute meeting on House Republicans on Monday night, according to several lawmakers who attended the session.

Boehner’s opinion was quickly backed up GOP lawmakers who were serving in Congress during 1995, when former Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) squared off with then-President Bill Clinton by shutting down the government twice. Reps. Don Young (Alaska), Dana Rohrabacher (Calif.) and Buck McKeon (Calif.) — a close ally — supported Boehner’s position. Dozens of other Republicans rallied to support Boehner as well, in a moment that one GOP insider called a “turning point” for House Republicans.

Jeez, even the crier understands that this is going to be a disaster for the GOP...

LJ, how can I miss something that provides almost nothing to me? And the question is would "you" miss the Feds, not will it effect someone. VL, its a temporary shutdown, are you expecting them to pack up the roads before going home?

The silent majority will be silent no more.
