Slideshow: Down, Out, and Surrounded by Sewage in Coachella

While hundreds of thousands of people revel in their favorite music at this weekend's Coachella festival, thousands of others will be just down the road, suffering. Here's just a tiny glimpse into the poverty and public health issues currently plaguing the Eastern Coachella Valley (ECV) towns of Thermal and Mecca.

There are dozens of trailer parks around the ECV, many of which are unpermitted and violate county building codes. Of the ones that are legal, many, like St. Anthony Trailer Park, sit just miles away from a tower of dried human feces and a massive illegal dump.
