Alan Greenspan: U.S. Must 'Let Bush Tax Cuts Lapse' (VIDEO)
With the risk of a national debt crisis lurking over the nation, former Federal Reserve chairman Alan Greenspan can't agree with continuing vast tax cuts for America's richest taxpayers.
Appearing on MSNBC's Meet The Press on Sunday, Greenspan was trenchant, saying that Bush-era tax cuts, extended last year by the Obama administration, must be allowed to expire with the federal deficit, once tomorrow's problem, quickly developing into a threat to today's economy.
"I think this crisis is so imminent and so difficult that I think we have to allow the so-called Bush tax cuts all to expire," Greenspan said. "That is a very big number," he continued, adding that taxes should return to the higher levels instituted by the Clinton administration in the 1990s not just for the wealthiest taxpayers, but for all Americans.
Interesting video... Even Greenspan realizes that it's time to let the tax cuts expire.. It's about time the upper 1-2% pay a little more...Of course, if ALL the tax cuts expire, it won't just be the top 1-2%, and that's okay too... Oh, those poor folks in that top bracket... They might actually have to pay 3.9% more...(or just hire a better accountant, who will probably find new ways to get them out of it...)
It is amazing that conservatives are such tools for the corporatists. Why should the individual middle class taxpayer subsidize corporate welfare? Corporations receive the benefit of massive government services, from the federal level in the form of military protection, custom services, interstate highways, railroads, air traffic control, and on , and on, and on, to the local level for fire and police, roads, etc. Why should they not pay their fair share, instead of subsidizing them for their record profits? Does GE not use interstate highways, air and railroad traffic systems, the benefit of our military, and the national infrastructure?
"Remember to always be yourself. Unless you can be batman. Then always be batman." Unknown
I sincerely hope some of you realize very soon that the problem is not tax rates. It's tax code.
You can try to increase the tax on the wealthiest all you want, but until our ridiculous tax code is changed, it will remain status quo. Corporations like GE are getting away with it because of the tax rules which allow them to play a shell game with off-shore assets.
But far more importantly, this country has a wasteful spending problem brought on by a lack of leadership, too much federal government, and a complete lack of accountability. It's been going on for several years and has gotten completely out of control in the last 3 years.
