I do have to wonder if the russian immigrants speak Russian at home, and if you knew that would you hate them as much as you hate Americans from Mexico.
Archer:
I feel terrible calling you an idiot. Not fair to the idiots!
Meanwhile to your question, in case you don't remember. I have stated much earlier on this forum that my parents were Legal immigrants from Russia, so FYI, they spoke Russian at home, but the part you don't understand is that they were proud of becoming American, learned the language and celebrated the American Dream, by becoming a part of it. They didn't choose to make their old language a part of this country ( Dial 1 for English, Dial 2 for Espanol. They Obeyed the laws of this country. They proved that the system worked by becoming successful.
America is called a melting post because MOST of us came from immigrants. Being a Democrat means feeling good about yourself by saying all people should be allowed to be equal. What you are not saying is that many Liberals don't like Hispanics and it has nothing to do with political leanings.

Nice broad brush you are using there You nit pick liberals for saying Conservatives do whatever....then you go and post what being a democrat means....what you are not saying is there are conservatives who think all people should be allowed to be equal and it has nothing to do with political leanings.
my bad using the russians as an example. I had forgotten you were russian, I don't suppose that colors how you view this story at all. But seriously......I have read many posts here and on other sites where conservatives complained about hispanic celebrations and how they continue with their traditions even after becoming citizens. I have no problem with that....it is part of their heritage and should be celebrated. I do not agree with having to press one for spanish and feeling lost in Phoenix when I wind up in a neighborhood where everything is in Spanish.....I do wish I spoke the language, I wish I spoke a lot of languages.
We're a long way from the original story, and I have to take the immigrants at their word that they see communism and socialism around every liberal corner....I think they are wrong. Just as I think McCarthy was wrong when he saw communism in every word and deed by some Americans...he was wrong about that...and I think these immigrants are wrong about what they see. Perhaps they are still too close to communism to see the differences........
Just my opinion, you may now drag out the idiot word again, it's ever so much easier than having a discussion.
Why is it so difficult to address opposing opinions? I suppose it is easier to simply steamroll forward with yes men.
What the Latino immigration and way of integrating into American life issues are is quite irrelevant. What is relevant is the perspectives of the Russian immigrants. The fact they do see great similarity between Communism and Democrat philosophy warrants consideration. The old saying where there is smoke there is fire comes to mind.
Archer, you can propose that there are some fine distinctions that differentiate the two positions in question, but that is ignoring the larger similarities that Russian immigrants readily recognize. Clearly similarities exist or a comparison would not be drawn. So why do you think they are wrong. Do you have any specifics beyond a comparison to McCarthy's perception?
