Russian Immigrants Compare Communism to…Democrats

Rockdoc, I am only going by what is in the OP's original article, but much of what the russians are saying sound like GOP talking points and sound bytes, not an actual description of what I believe liberals/Democrats stand for. For example:

Fridman said that the Democrats "are going in an absolutely different direction," focusing on "income redistribution" and rich-versus-poor "class war."

"It's too socialistic," said Fridman, head of the non-profit Staten Island Community Center

The original article details the GOPs continued outreach to this community, we can hardly expect the GOP not to take this opportunity to bad-mouth democrats and use the "socialist" word as often as possible.

My reference to McCarthy was to illustrate that when someone keeps telling others over and over again that something is true....like McCarthy told the American people that certain people are communists, or like the GOP is telling the russian immigrants in this article that democrats are anti-business and socialistic, then people start to think it must be true. Obviously the Democrats have missed an opportunity to talk with these immigrants like the GOP has and educate them on what the Democrats stand for and what they hope for the future.

I believe that it is easy to play on the fears of people who fear communism.....like McCarthy played on this nations fears.....so I have some skepticism about the conclusions drawn by these immigrants.

Obviously there was a change of mind. She continues to post, thus not run away.

If this were the only time that she has pulled this tactic, then fine. But it is her method of operation.

:rofl

You really do get pissy when people don't jump to your tune. You need to work on that character flaw.

Getting back to the crux of the matter. First, I stand guilty of not having read the article and thus display considerable ignorance. Your excerpts from the article certainly add credence to what you argue.

I also appreciate your elaboration on your McCarthy reference. Unfortunately, propaganda influences the thinking of all nations.

Let's see the conservative rebuttal with references to the article specifically.

Aleksandr Isayevich Solzhenitsyn came to this country and stayed for quite a spell. He eventually started telling us that we were too liberal and should be much more conservative than we currently are. He came to this conclusion on his own and his liberal audience began to stop listening to him.

Maybe the Republicans are not telling these Russians that the Democrats are too liberal. Maybe they are determining this for themselves. Reckon? Or are they childlike and must be given an opinion?

Archer, are you saying that the dems are not "focusing on or not doing it at all. Or are you saying that it is not socialistic? Or something else?

It is not my place to respond for Archer, but I'm going to present my view regarding your question. The issue of what dems are doing or not doing with regard to Russian Immigrant perception is not the issue. No side has a monopoly on propaganda or cherry picking sound bites. There is a big difference between a politician (Fridman) seizing up a point of view as opposed to a immigrant being quoted. Her point is a critical distinction that must be acknowledged. I'll let Archer address your other two questions.
