Well put
BUT, hopefully each kid IF skilled in math (THE key) will study computer science and engineering. Keep them out of "lunchtime subjects) and focus, focus. These kids could be the real future of America (at least they will live well). The average salary (from a mediocre school) in CS today exceeds $100,000.00......at 22 YO.
OF course they could stay here and plow snow and gut deer........a choice.

That's a bit of a jump.
Our education system continues to decline, as do family values and sense of personal responsibility. We're producing fewer college graduates, and even with lowering academic standards, our high school graduate rates have continued to drop. That's not out of touch. That's fact.
As for the kids themselves, I won't under estimate them. People can change. I'm sure there are High School teachers of mine that wouldn't believe that I have a science degree and career instead of a jail cell and a number.
I have a little more hope for the youth of America, I know they aren't too keen to get into math and engineering but I expect that most of the Chinese professionals and students you see here are the super elite, probably less than 1% get to come to America to study and work. So if you were comparing our 1 percenters to theirs, I think Americans would come out on top. (Joke, provided they were raised by Chinese dragon moms.)
Thomas Sowell: There are no solutions, just trade-offs.
We are falling behind as a result of a growing sense of entitlement. We are indeed becoming more and more like Europe and less and less like the people who were the pioneers of self government and the American dream. The more we continue to consolidate power at the higher levels of government, the longer the problem will continue to get worse.
SS - they are a small % - but they are taking high paying jobs because our kids are not prepared - THAT is the direct responsibility of the parents.........period. Too many parents want to be buddies - and remain children themselves (recall the BS - the children will teach us from the 60s - well they did and we now see the results).
PRINT - TAKE responsibility.........forget the government.
PRINT - TAKE responsibility.........forget the government.
How can you forget the government? They have become too intrusive in our lives. They have been allowed to gain this overwhelming power over everything.
Deltamrey:
It is a great thought, to take responsibility, but we have reached a point in our history when we need to create resistance.
This nation offers infinite opportunity for those that make good choices when young - otherwise in a tech world McDonalds really is the only option. The Nanny state has never worked.
