On Monday, the Central Bank of Mexico reported that remittances or wire transfers to Mexico increased by 5.48 percent between January and March over the same period in 2010.
In the first quarter of the year, remittances rose to $5.1 billion, from the $4.83 billion in the first three months of 2010.
The announcement further confirms the results of Pew Hispanic Center study released in late 2010, which found that while every demographic of native-born workers has lost millions of jobs during this deep recession, foreign-born workers have actually increased their employment numbers.
Since June 2009, immigrants (including illegal aliens) have gained 656,000 jobs, while U.S. born workers lost 1.2 million jobs during that same period.
The Pew study found that 57 percent of those that they refer to as “immigrant” workers, were actually non-citizens.
Remittances, such as Western Union Moneygrams from the United States represent the second largest source of income for Mexico. In 2009, Mexican workers, mostly illegal aliens, sent home $21.2 billion in such transfers.

Yes and this is one of the biggest reasons why my whole position on Illegals has changed in the last 3 years. Those 656,000 jobs- they are not picking tomatoes, those are landscaping, carpentry, electrical, roofing, plumbing type construction jobs- and many other kinds of jobs that American citizens do. These are jobs that Americans held 3 years ago- and no longer have because an illegal has stepped in at a lower price and under the table.
The illegal has an advantage because they claim exempt or claim many dependants so very little or nothing is taken out of the paycheck for taxes - and they use a stolen or fradulant social security number. The illegal has an advantage because they don't play by the same rules- they don't buy insurance or have the "taxable overhead" that Americans have. In many cases while the male is working under the table- the female is applying for taxpayer assistance by claiming poverty. If the workers family is back in Mexico- the the money they make is being sent out of the country
The left should look beyond the political gains they might expect by making these folks legit. They need to be sent home until after such time that Americans are fully employed again.
And instead of having lost 1.2 million jobs during that period- the number would be more like 544,000. Everyone should take a close look at the damage being done- and the fact that Obama is doing nothing about it. Even the democrats around here know people who are unemployed- and this is part of the reason. Obama's policy here is damaging our economy - and putting Americans out of work.
