Getting us out of our cars is a major goal of Agenda 21 and Sustainable Development. How do they do that – make it impossible to own or drive a car.

So everyone who has to drive to work gets penalized for working?? Everyone who lives in the country and needs to drive to pick up groceries gets penalized for needing to eat? It is one thing to tax frivolous miles driven, I could get my mind around that, but a blanket driving tax is too much. If the object is to reduce oil consumption and energy independence, provide a viable alternative pathway. This is what others require with all ideas that inhibit one thing or another. Drug farming comes to mind. The argument has always been that you need to provide an alternative viable source of income to the farmers who grow and harvest drugs.

These dumb@@ses in Washington think they know what's best for us as usual. They speak so highly of this new technology that very few people want....so if we don't want it, they try to force us to want it by pulling more money out of our pockets as punishment (even in a collapsing economy).

Here's the sales figures as well as projected sales or the "Car of the Year" Chevy Volt  (I think projection is a little low):

And yes, those numbers are HUNDREDS....I think those numbers would be good if they were talking about a city the size of Ft Collins, but they are for the entire world!

The left is angry because they are now being judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin.

Guess I don't see what's different about this from a gasoline tax?

A gasoline tax is much easier to collect and much less intrusive. Personally I think this legislation will be dead on arrival and I am suprised to see that Dems want to punish those who use alternative energies like natural gas and hybrid cars.

Wait for it they'll take both tax on gas, and tax on road wear, as it's been refered too...
Read the artciles above, I beleive I first post this topic, when I was allowed at PC.

Face it it's a double tax.
Do you really think they'll give up ANY tax for road repair, this will most likely be a triple tax.

Tax for the privilege to buy gas, a tax paid to the State for the privilege to drive on State roads, and a tax for the privilege to drive on the federal roads. Don’t forget the toll roads, think they’ll go away think again.
O also note HOW well our road are starting to remind me of the roads in China…

IMO, this will kill the trucking industry, NOT the union, the indepents.
And what about the traveling salesmen/women... UPS/FEDEX/Postal prices will skyrocket, food proces will increase MORE, Airlines will take advantage, trains will take advantage and all will be pasted on to U.S.
WAKE-UP, and ask yourself, when will it coast to much for me to work, and then what happens when they're aren't enough people to support the people, that are living off the doll, because they've thrown in the towel...
Look at the BIG PICTURE!

Taxing by the mile is similar to the gas tax, but it more accurately tracks just how much you use the public roads. High miles per gallon cars pay less gas tax than low mileage cars for the same miles driven. So taxing by the mile is in effect a tax on high mileage cars, which seems counter to what you'd want to do.

They could also raise the gas tax, but with gas prices near $4/gallon, that wouldn't help you get reelected.

A per gallon gas tax is based upon the amount of energy consumed per mile- so those who drive a prius get a better deal than those driving a suburban. A per mile tax would really hit the prius driving Obama lover.

Think Globally- act locally! A prius driving democrat would then find that the incentive to buy and drive a high mileage car would all but go away.

The Think Globally- act locally crowd thinks this is a good idea- that everyone should live downtown- this type of tax would hit all of us who live away from the urban center of the city. But they really havn't thought through the plan very well- the farmer is going to pay more - and so the costs for food and other products that must be trucked in will cost the city dweller alot more.

Yes- the goal is to use the force of government and it's taxing powers to change our behavior as citizens- and from the left, what's new.

This plan is DOA.
