God, you guys are easy...

You are actually trying to wriggle out of being shown to be gullible? That is amazing. Shows how dishonest that you are.

We could, of course, put an end to all of it by refusing to consolidate power in the federal government and taking a lot of the power it has usurped away from it. If the one entity doesn't hold all the power then buying that one entity won't be nearly as effective. If we don't allow the political parties to present us with only a single candidate from their party in an election, then it is the person, not the party, that has the most support and wins.

I agree chickaree - the only way to fix the problem is to change the rules of how a person is elected. Not through election finance reform, through election reform. We end the divisiveness and the polarization by ending the power of the political parties to decide who appears on the ballot. We keep the process of the individual citizens casting a vote for the person they want, but we end the practice of allowing a party to present us with only one candidate from their party on the ballot for the office in question.

Unlikely to happen Printsmith. The two parties have a stranglehold on the funding, they have a power base that spreads throughout our society and they have devout followers that will continue to elect them no matter how far they stray from representing our best interests.

It's a little early, but here's some potential 3rd party candidates... (I think we're scraping the bottom of the barrel...)

"Now, more than ever, the illusions of division threaten our very existence. We all know the truth: more connects us than separates us. But in times of crisis the wise build bridges, while the foolish build barriers. We must find a way to look after one another as if we were one single tribe.” -King T'Challa, Black Panther

The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it. ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is. ~Winston Churchill
