Should 285b eliminate emoticons?

I hate them , they hurt discussion and seem lazy. I like them as an addition to a comment but hate it when they are the only response. Or am I just old and cranky? Not my decision of course.

and you are right, they are often used as the only response, I think I have done that a time or two....but I do prefer them as an addition to a response, to show emotion that is hard to convey in just words. As long as there are lazy people who want to hurt the discussion they will be used by themselves.

I like them as an add on , but I get irritated when it is the only response, except "yeah that"
