Democrat Kathy Hochul wins Special Election in NY!

AP is calling the special election in New York's 26th Congressional District for Democrat Kathy Hochul. This is huge. That's been a solid Republican district since the end of the Civil War. Her opponent stupidly chose to run on the Ryan budget plan to kill Medicare... At this point Hochul has won by 5 percentage points, and the (former Democrat, now "Tea Party" candidate) never got above 8%...

Of course, in typical GOP fashion, the Republicans went to the courts BEFORE THE ELECTION WAS EVEN FINISHED and got a court order barring the results of the election being certified until at least Thursday. Hmmmm... When all else fails, lawyer-up and try to rig the election.

So much for the Ryan/Kill-Medicare plan. The GOP will use it as a litmus test; and every poll (including the GOP's own polls) show that 80% of the public is against it, and they will lose if they run on it...

Keep it up guys!... This is too beautiful !!!!!

I'm glad to see my donation to the Hochul campaign was put to good use!

Scott Brown and Olympia Snowe have already run for cover before the Senate vote on it. Watch for all the Republican Senators who are coming up for reelection to run for cover as well. Killing Medicare is sooooo not going to pass.

Big win? Not really, one of over 400 representatives and she will be serving in the minority. Her influence and power will be minimal. My prediction? The district will go back to the Republicans in 2012.

But if she had won the district against only a Republican, I would give her kudos and consider that this election might give Dems hope that they could win the House back in 2012. But winning when you are running with 2 conservatives splitting the vote is nothing.

Killing Medicare? Talk about hyperbole! More like trying to bring out of control Medicare costs back down to reasonable levels.

My prediction? Boehner & Kantor better start looking over their shoulders...

Every Republican that is on-record for voting for that odious plan should be VERY worried... There's a reason that Medicare and SS are considered the "third rail." I think the ideologues have overstepped. Killing Medicare is not going to pass in this lifetime...

Yep, as I've mentioned a few times here, the Republicans made a mistake to actually propose a plan to reform Medicare (which is in serious trouble without a fix) before the election. Now the Democrats are making this into a one subject election plan, just demonize the Republicans. Not that they have presented any plan.

The Republicans will continue to be in trouble unless they figure out a counter plan. Good luck with that. They did the right thing to at least propose something for discussion, but a huge mistake before the election.

But you are being very one sided saying the Republicans were acting in typical fashion by going to the courts. Don't you recall the two Bush elections? The hanging chads and all the other numerous crap in court by the Dems which got turned down?

The big secret is if the Democrats ever presented an honest Medicare plan, it too would reduce benefits (at least for the higher income, and maybe to all with increased premiums and/or deductibles) and increase taxes as well.
