RFIDs in Your Food for Enhanced Information

When is too much information...too much information? I like to keep track of what I'm eating, and for now checking my blood sugar is just for sh**s and giggles (knock on wood), but this seems above and beyond. What do you think - would you like this level of detail about your diet?

The NutriSmart system would put RFIDs into your food for enhanced information

RFID, short for Radio Frequency ID, tags have found their way into a wide variety of applications. These pellets, which are often roughly the same size as a grain of rice, can help us to be reunited with our lost pets, keep towels inside the hotel, and keep big box stores shipping the right boxes to the right places at the right time.

In time you may even find them inside your own stomach. ...the NutriSmart system...is based on edible RFID tags that will tell you more about your food then you ever wanted to know. The system would be able to not only give you complete nutritional data on the food that you are about to consume, but able to tell you the entire supply chain behind everything that you are putting into your mouth. While this could be good news for diabetics, people with serious food allergies, and vegans, it also has applications outside of the medical.

"Now, more than ever, the illusions of division threaten our very existence. We all know the truth: more connects us than separates us. But in times of crisis the wise build bridges, while the foolish build barriers. We must find a way to look after one another as if we were one single tribe.” -King T'Challa, Black Panther

RFID is a specific technology, and is only as good as the system that makes use of that technology. The RFID tag doesn't conatain any information except what's put there by the system. As far as tracking the food for the supply chain, that's only as trustworthy as the weakest link in the supply chain's IT departments. The information on teh RFID tag is only as good as the system that put it there.

Basically, I wouldn't trust it as much as I do the labels on my food. I'd also invest in an RFID scanner and remove any tags prior to eating. Sorry, but I don't want a toilet spitting out a ticker tape inventory of what I just I just passed.

Amazing, and after the e-coli problem in Europe right now, would be easier to find out if your food has a problem.
